Most car engines either have a timing belt or chain, these are important as the top part of the engine (the head) and the bottom part of the engine components can occupy the same space within the engine but at different times. The timing belts ensure that the these components do not come into contact and ensure the correct timing is set for the vehicle. Most cars and vans have a specific time frame or mileage at which the belts need to be replaced. If the timing belts fail, it can cause serious damage to the engine. At Worlebury Garage we are fully equipped to change timing belts (including wet belts) and timing chains.
Timing chains work in the exact same way as a timing belt but some manufacturers claim that these should last the lifetime of the engine, sadly there are circumstaces where these can stretch and fail or the tensioners can wear. Normally there are signs of the chains and or tensioners failing as this can cause rattling especially when the engine is cold.
